Hi, I’m Brian Ballard, and I’m the owner of Galaxy School of Magic. I wanted to tell you a little, today, about how I spent my after-school time as a child learning about magic and eventually becoming a professional magician. When I was young, kids my age enjoyed all the regular kid games, we went to summer camp and daycare, and we took part in regular after-school activities. These places offered a lot of learning opportunities for kids. And its true, kid games and regular after-school activities have always been fun.
But when I was 11 years old, a trip to the hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, changed my life forever. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I learned how to take insulin to stay healthy. More important, I discovered that I lived in a world filled with magic. My passion for all things magic began that week in the hospital when a professional magician visited me and performed sleight of hand tricks, as they often do for ill children.
Within a few years, I was a professional magician, myself. Now, it wasn’t easy to learn magic when I was a kid. There was no school for magic, no supplemental education in magic, not even magical tutoring. And forget about learning or games for kids online. No Internet! If I wanted to learn a card trick, I had to buy books on card tricks or magic supplies from magic shops, sometimes traveling great distances or shopping by mail. I did learn about magic this way, and my dream to make it easier for other kids to learn was born. I always knew I wanted to open a magic school for kids and even a summer camp where kids can have a lot of fun and adventure outside the classroom while building skills for life.
Today’s kids certainly have many more options when they want to learn magic. And Galaxy School of Magic is ready to provide the kids of southern California with the best choice yet for after-school learning and entertainment. What could be better than magic school!
